An 89th minute goal denied Edinburgh City all three points as the Capital outfit were forced to settle for a point after a 3-3 draw with Gala Fairydean Rovers at Netherdale last night.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes in the Lowland League encounter, City went behind through Jamie Gibson’s 54th minute strike, but Shaun Harrison equalised at the back post after forcing in a Daryl Devlin corner.

The home side restored their lead through Billy Miller’s penalty before substitute Ross Guthrie levelled things at 2-2 with ten minutes left.

The visitors must have thought they had taken maximum points when City captain Dougie Gair scored from a free kick on 86 minutes, but the hosts’ persistence was rewarded in the closing stages when Gibson struck again.

Preston Athletic suffered their second home defeat in just three days as the University of Stirling ran out convincing winners with a 3-1 victory at Pennypit. The visitors were 2-0 to the good after just 12 minutes before the students added a third ten minutes into the second half.

Sean Martin scored a consolation for the East Lothian side 13 minutes from time.

Whitehill Welfare’s scoring spree was brought to a halt after they were beaten 1-0 by East Kilbride at K-Park. The Midlothian side struggled to get to grips with their opponents and manager Mike Lawson will be disappointed his side couldn’t find a repeat performance after their 4-2 victory over Gala at the weekend.

Spartans’ Kevin Motion equalised from the spot in the second half after Donal Henretty was fouled to thwart Vale of Leithen, making it two wins from as many games. The Ainslie Park side battled hard but were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against their well-organised opponents.

Elsewhere, Gretna 2008 thrashed Selkirk 5-0 and Dalbeattie Star’s Borders derby with Threave Rovers finished 0-0.
