New Hibs Ladies’ defender Rachael Small is eyeing a double celebration this weekend as the League Cup winners host Renfrew in the third round of the Scottish Cup at Ainslie Park tomorrow.
The 24-year-old full-back, who joined from Aberdeen last month, is the fiancée of Hibs first-team player Martin Boyle and has recently relocated from the north east to the couple’s new home in East Lothian.
Boyle is in action this afternoon as Hibs look to get their Championship campaign off to winning ways at Falkirk, a match Small is attending, before the attention shifts to the women’s game.
“I’ve been going to watch Martin on a Saturday for a while now so I’ll be at Falkirk this afternoon. Hopefully they can get off to a flyer with a win and then it will be my turn tomorrow. Let’s hope it will be a happy Sunday dinner for us both to enjoy!
“I can’t wait to get going really. It was great to join the club last month but I can see by the tempo of training that I am going to have to bide my time to get into the team. The girls have done really well so I just need to show the manager that I can be an asset to the team when I get my chance.
“Renfrew will be a tough game because last week we didn’t perform as well as a team against Celtic so we’ll be looking to rectify that tomorrow. We’ve also got a huge game next weekend against Glasgow City so we need to get that momentum going again.”
Elsewhere, Hearts welcome Hamilton, who they defeated 1-0 on league duty last weekend, to Riccarton in third-round action and Hutchison Vale make the trip north to play Granite City.
