A goal from in-form Nico Gibson earned City a place in the quarter-finals of the South Regional Cup, where they will face East Kilbride in three weeks’ time.
The sides were evenly matched with both defences in good form, Marshall and Stobie coping well with the few shots on target. Allum and McFarland had chances for City, while Burns’s set-pieces for the students were causing some problems.
City took control as the hour mark approached. In 58 minutes Allum’s angled shot was inches wide, McFarland came close three minutes later, before City finally scored in 62 minutes. Caddow’s high ball into the box was chested down by Cuff but he couldn’t get it back to the keeper, and Gibson darted in to stab the ball home for what proved to be the winner.
