Johnny Harvey has quit McBookie South Division champions Edinburgh United to become manager of Haddington Athletic just a year into the job.

Harvey led United to the Premier League and their first league triumph in 28 years in April, but has left to join Haddington, who finished fourth in the South Division this season.

United had finished bottom of the league for the last two campaigns before Harvey took over last June and guided them to the league title.

Harvey, who managed Tranent on an interim basis before taking the reigns at United, was planning for his second season at United, but jumped at the chance of managing Haddington when former manager Stevie McLeish resigned last month.

It is understood Harvey could raid the Paties Road club to aid Haddington’s promotion push, with the former Junior Cup winner set to be given a bigger budget with the Millfield Park side.
