Former Dundee defender Matt Lockwood is hoping to make a big impact in Edinburgh with the launch of his football academy tomorrow.
The Englishman has lived in the Capital since signing for the Dark Blues in 2010, spending four years with the Dens Park club, making 119 appearances and scoring ten goals.
However, after announcing his retirement from the game last year aged 38, Lockwood has refocused his passion into developing his coaching skills.
“I didn’t really have the time to do it when I was still playing but it’s always something I’ve wanted to do,” Lockwood said.
“I’m offering kids the opportunity to be coached by an A Licensed coach who was assistant manager at Dundee and played over 650 league matches. So hopefully people will look at it and say ‘I quite fancy that’.
“I know there is a lot of competition in and around Edinburgh but I’m going to make sure they enjoy themselves, there is no pressure on them but, if they are good enough, then I’ve got the contacts in the football industry.”
The first session of the Matt Lockwood Football Academy gets underway at the Edinburgh Academy Junior School from 12.30pm on the 2G astro pitch. Visit www.mattlockwood.com for more details.
