Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale are overwhelming favourites to progress in their Alex Jack Cup first-round clash with confidence-sapped Ormiston at Saughton Enclosure tomorrow.

Raymond Carr’s men have been fast out of the blocks registering five straight wins from their League Cup Qualifying Group A fixtures, cruising through to the knockout phase having netted 26 times whilst conceding just the once during last weekend’s clash with Coldstream.

Their East Lothian opponents, meanwhile, are going through something of a transitional period after manager Brian Johnston departed for Junior outfit Haddington over the summer.

New boss Richie Weir has taken up the reins but has so far seen his side lose all four of their Group A matches that includes a 5-0 loss to Lothian four weeks ago.

Heriot-Watt University face Tweedmouth Rangers for the second time in seven days in what is the only other Alex Jack Cup tie to be played this weekend.

Banji Koya’s men lost out 2-1 in their League Cup Group B qualifying clash to the Borders outfit six days ago, an outcome Koya stressed wasn’t a fair reflection of the game.

Meanwhile, Steven Vinter’s Tynecastle get their East of Scotland League campaign off to a start tomorrow with a visit to Whitestone Park where hosts Peebles Rovers await.
