Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale boss Raymond Carr believes tomorrow’s East of Scotland City Cup Final with Berwick Rangers at Shielfield Park is the ideal preparation for his sides forthcoming Scottish Cup clash with Montrose.
The fixture is played annually between the Scottish League Two outfit and the winners of the Image Printers Cup, and with Berwick not participating in this weekend’s Petrofac Training Cup, both clubs agreed this international break weekend as a suitable date for the fixture (3.00pm kick-off).
Carr has the opportunity to field some of the clubs promising youngsters for the match but with Berwick boss Colin Cameron set to field some of his more experienced players for the game, the Lothian boss is not expecting the Borderers to go easy on his troops.
“It’s going to be a step up for the players, but it’s the perfect preparation for the Montrose game because they’re from the same league and it will give our players the chance to further stake a place for the important matches we have coming up.”
Lothian are expected to welcome back Richie Wilkes and Scott Gormley for tomorrow’s final after both missed last weekend’s 2-1 East of Scotland League win over Ormiston.
The match will go to extra time and penalties in the event of a draw after 90 minutes.
