Spartans welcome Lowland League leaders East Kilbride to Ainslie Park on Saturday and have the opportunity to take top spot themselves should other results go their way.

Dougie Samuel’s men took advantage of being one of only four sides on league business last weekend by recording a convincing 4-0 away win at Threave Rovers.

With Edinburgh City in Scottish Cup action and tomorrow’s opponents idle thanks to a free week, Spartans joined their rivals on nine points to set up this weekend’s first versus third encounter.

Edinburgh City travel to the Borders as they take on Galafairydean Rovers at Netherdale. The Capital club are the only other side along with East Kilbride to maintain a 100 per cent record in the league, and last week’s 5-0 Scottish Cup demolition of Fort William will have done nothing to dent their confidence. Free-scoring Gretna 2008 are the visitors to Ferguson Park to face Whitehill Welfare. The two clubs have scored 19 Lowland League goals between them this campaign in a combined total of seven games. Preston Athletic are up against BSC Glasgow as David Bingham’s team go in search of their first league victory of the season.
