Nitten’s joy over visit of Auchinleck

Have your say

NEWTONGRANGE will try to succeed where a whole host of other East Region sides have failed when they take on
Ayrshire giants Auchinleck in the third round of the Emirates Junior Cup.

Talbot have proved the scourge of local teams en route to reaching the final of the junior game’s showpiece event two seasons running. They’ve beaten Musselburgh twice in the process and Bo’ness, too. Their victims also included Bonnyrigg, Linlithgow, Penicuik and Edinburgh United.

And, in the last round of this season’s competition, Tommy Sloan’s side handed out a heavy defeat to Dalkeith. Now Newtongrange have been given the chance to see if they can topple Talbot after the sides were paired together at New Victoria Park on Saturday week.

“It’s a fantastic draw for the club,” said Star boss Alan Miller. “We know the size of the task as Auchinleck not only have a great Junior Cup pedigree but are flying high as well in the West Super League with 22 points from 24. In addition to being great in terms of potential revenue, it is also good from a football point of view.”

Bonnyrigg are at home to
Petershill while Linlithgow entertain Fauldhouse. Musselburgh will host Bellshill, while Bo’ness face a long journey to Aberdeen to take on Bridge of Don-based Hermes.
Penicuik are away to Kelty.
