Peebles Rovers wrapped up the Central Taxis First Division title on Wednesday with a 6-2 victory over Ormiston.
Two goals apiece from Daniel McAleavy, Paul Murray and further strikes from Christopher Flockhart and Lee Zavaroni, clinched the title for John O’Hara’s side which has seen them go 21 games unbeaten.
“The boys have worked hard all season and I think the pain of losing our unbeaten record to Ormiston the week before spurred us to victory,” O’Hara said.
Ormiston manager Brian Johnston watched his side take the lead through Declan Quinn at Whitestone Park, only to capitulate in the second half with Liam Skinner being sent off and Craig Wojtowycz netting a consolation as Ormiston’s promotion hopes suffered a blow. “It’s been taken out of our hands now because Heriot Watt have four games left to our three,” Johnston said ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Eyemouth United.
Heriot-Watt remain on Ormiston’s coat-tails after their midweek 2-1 victory over promotion rivals Duns.
The students travel to Burntisland Shipyard tomorrow (2.00pm kick-off) knowing that four wins from their remaining matches will secure promotion.
