Newtongrange goalkeeper Kieron Renton shrugged off praise after his heroics helped his team clinch the points against Super League leaders Penicuik.
Renton’s brother, Kris, scored the only goal, while the Star No.1 produced a man-of-the-match performance with a string of superb saves.
“I’m only doing my job,” said Kieron. “I hope it’s the start of a better run for us. We’ve not hit the heights of last season and that’s hurting.”
Penicuik settled first and, within three minutes, Kieron Renton kept out a header from Aaron Somerville. Penicuik’s Ryan McCallum slammed the ball off the bar with another header on 20 minutes before Renton again saved superbly from Somerville.
In the second half, Renton again thwarted Somerville with another fine save from the striker’s header. With just 15 minutes remaining, the visitors made the breakthrough.
Penicuik’s Ryan Gay gave away cheap possession in midfield for Jordan Cropley to race on before sliding the ball to Kris Renton 20 yards out. He controlled the ball before driving a low effort into the bottom corner with Ryan McGurk well beaten. The hosts were reduced to ten men when David White received his second booking of the game.
