Stirling University came from behind to beat Lowland League champions Spartans 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at Forthbank.
Spartans were missing a number of regulars due to injury and the pace of Stirling University strikers Paul Sludden and Chris Geddes created problems for the Spartans defenders all afternoon.
It took just eight minutes for the home side to open the scoring. Chris McKee found space on the right and he played a neat ball to Paul Sludden on the edge of the box who fired a powerful low shot into the bottom corner, just beyond the reach of stand-in keeper Jackson.
Spartans got themselves level in the 24th minute when Kevin Motion’s corner kick was met at the front post by Willie Bremner who headed into the net.
Sean Muhsin almost found the net with a powerful strike from 25 yards, however, Ryan Marshall did well to get a hand to it when it looked destined for the top corner.
Spartans did get themselves ahead just moments later though in the 30th minute when Bremner half volleyed the ball into the far corner of the net.
Bremner could have completed his hat-trick after the break when he forced his way into the box and after his initial strike came back off keeper Marshall he fired his second attempt over the bar with the goal gaping.
Uni brought on Khan Williams-Mitchell midway through the second half and he was to turn the hero for the students as he brought Stirling Uni level in the 79th minute when he got onto a slack pass at the back, took it past a defender and slotted into the bottom corner.
Williams-Mitchell then found a winner in the 84th minute when Chris Geddes got to the byline and cut back a pass which found the sub unmarked on the edge of the six-yard box allowing him plenty time to blast the ball into the net.
