Striker George Hunter has completed his move from Spartans to St Johnstone, signing a two-and-a-half year deal with the William Hill Scottish Cup holders.

Hunter, 18, enjoyed a prolific six months for the Lowland League club’s under-20 team, netting an incredible 36 goals in all competitions after joining from Musselburgh Juniors in the summer. The former Livingston youth player had trials with both Hearts and Hibs but has opted to join Tommy Wright’s Saints.

Spartans manager Dougie Samuel spoke highly of the young forward, telling the club’s website: “From day one, George has demonstrated a fantastic work ethic and desire to improve, to be the best he can be. He has made a valuable contribution to our under-20s current campaign and coped well whenever he has trained or travelled with the first team. He has a wonderful composure in front of goal which allows him to score all types of goals. George has earned this wonderful opportunity and we all wish him well.”
