Spartans resume in emphatic fashion

Lothian Thistle 1

After four weeks without a competitive game Spartans resumed their campaign with a comprehensive win.

The home side were ahead after just five minutes when Robbie Manson knocked the ball across the area for Donal Henretty to head home from eight yards out.

Ali MacKinnon then capitalised on a deflected McLeod strike to double the lead in the 37th minute.

Lothian opportunities were restricted to a couple of deliveries from Stewart, neither of which McDonagh was able to get control of to test the keeper.

Spartans struck again less than two minutes after the restart with Kerr Dodds lashing in a drive from the edge of the box. Omar Kader then put the game beyond any doubt in the 55th minute, getting the better of Swain at the second time of asking after the keeper made an initial save from short range.

Kenny Fisher finished well to pull a goal back on the hour, but there was no way back for Lothian by that stage, and only a fine double stop by Swain denied Kader and then Dodds adding to Spartans’ tally.
