Spartans chairman Craig Graham admitted that Sky Sports had “upped the ante” ahead of Tuesday’s William Hill Scottish Cup fifth-round replay with Berwick Rangers, the broadcaster selecting the impending quarter-final tie with Hibs for live coverage on March 8 (kick-off 12.45pm).

Whoever progresses will stand to collect a windfall of around £80,000 with the match being screened to a UK-wide audience, and Graham acknowledged the extra incentive to prevail at Shielfield for both clubs.

“It’s very much the same for both teams” he said. “I was talking to Colin Cameron yesterday morning when he was down coaching his Edinburgh Sports Academy – he’d just heard and was equally excited.

“For them also, it’s a significant sum of money, plus the prestige of being live on Sky, so it’s upped the ante for both teams. It would be the first time we’ll have been on Sky. Over the years we could have been chosen seven or eight times. We’re delighted there’s a chance, but it’s making it increasingly difficult to get people to focus on today’s game against Vale of Leithen.”
