PRESTON ATHLETIC can qualify from the Lowland League Cup Central Section A group with a draw against East Kilbride tomorrow.
East Kilbride have already qualified with six points from nine and top the group, with Stirling Uni in second with four points from all three of their games. That means a draw would see Willie Kirk’s Panners through courtesy of their superior goal difference over the students.
A 2-0 win away at Edinburgh Uni on Valentine’s Day gave the East Lothian outfit a chance of progressing in a tournament they made the final of last year, and qualification for the knock-out rounds tomorrow would help lift what has been a difficult season. However, they will have to do so without captain Paul Devlin, who is on holiday.
Elsewhere, Edinburgh University are seeking their third win on the bounce when they travel to Dalbeattie Star in the only match in the Lowland League this weekend.
Dorian Ogunro’s men won 3-2 away to Threave Rovers over the recent GroundHop weekend before winning the Queen’s Shield on Wednesday with a 3-0 win over their counterparts from Aberdeen. They are currently two places and ten points behind Star in the Lowland League table.
