Edinburgh University boss Dorian Ogunro believes his side are in good shape ahead of tomorrow’s William Hill Scottish Cup second-round tie away to Inverurie Loco Works.
Ogunro said that knowing the students had a strong squad allows them to approach the competition in a good frame of mind. “It’d be fantastic to get a run in the biggest competition we can play in” he said. “Other Lowland League teams can prioritise based on always knowing what players they’ll have. This season we knew we’d have a stronger squad because there were more boys staying on, but next year that might not be the case. This year we had a lot of boys for pre-season and a reasonable start so we’re in as good a position as we could be going into it. It’s not really a competition we can plan for.
“We enjoy it – the Scottish Cup is brilliant. Everything surrounding it ramps up – the small details, the players are more focused, the fans are more interested – just everything about it. It’s even great travelling. I’d rather have a home tie but you look forward to travelling because it’s all part of the Scottish Cup atmosphere.”
