Edinburgh University marked the opening of their new East Peffermill ground with a 2-2 draw against Champions Spartans last night.

Tim Rawlinson’s 23rd minute header gave the students the lead before Jack Beacher’s equaliser and a Kevin Motion penalty looked to have given the visitors the points. Uni
restored parity when sub Callum Irvine hit a screamer into the top corner with a minute left.

Uni coach Dorian Ogunro felt it was just deserts: “I think we deserved it and would have been disappointed with anything less than a point.”

Spartans boss Dougie Samuel was diplomatic: “The young boy comes on for his debut and puts one in the top corner. It’s fitting for the occasion.”

Stirling Uni beat Preston Athletic 3-1 thanks to a Chris Geddes double and Jeff Kessie’s strike after Ryan Strachan’s early opener for the Panners.
