Fauldhouse found out the hard way just how demanding the Super League campaign can be against the title holders and were punished for a couple of mistakes.
Bo’ness had the bulk of the pressure kicking against a strong wind in the first half and missed some serious chances, mostly from cross balls or corners. Fauldhouse were happy to soak up the pressure and hit back on the break.
The second half saw a different Fauldhouse as they sensed Bo’ness were struggling. Mark Wilkins almost finished off a great move from the visitors, but his effort didn’t trouble Peat in the Bo’ness goal. The visitors were pushing hard for the opener, but in the 55th minute central defender Kevin Ross was caught in two minds about a passback, allowing Darren Gribben to pounce and slam the ball past Murphy for the opener.
Fauldhouse bounced back and Gary Shanks came close to levelling the game but again Peat made a good save. Then with 15 to go Bo’ness grabbed a second. Colin Leiper played the ball out to Nicky Walker before racing up-field in time to be on the end of a sliced clearance and drove the ball home via a slight deflection.
Fauldhouse sub Craig Chilton was then dismissed after being booked twice within a couple of minutes. The third goal for Bo’ness was all down to the hard work of Walker. He chased the ball down the right wing and caught it before crossing to the back post, where Scott Pittman finished off the move with a simple knock in.
