Edinburgh City moved 11 points clear at the top of the Lowland League as they scored the only goal in an exciting encounter at rain-lashed K-Park.
City kept the home team pinned in their own half for long spells of the match, but their probes towards goal were consistently thwarted by excellent defending.
The first real chance of the match came when East Kilbride broke clear on the left in the 28th minute. Brady ran on to the through ball and his acutely-angled shot beat Stobie but came back off the far post, Paterson thumping it to safety.
City soon regained the upper hand, and in 37 minutes Gordon rose to cut out Caddow’s cross under severe pressure from Nico Gibson. Two minutes from the interval, though, Gibson scored his fifth goal in four matches. City drove down the right wing, and Gibson ran on to Dunn’s diagonal cross-field ball to hammer the ball under the East Kilbride No.1.
Gibson almost doubled the score a minute later when he collected a pinpoint-pass from McFarland, but a vital block by Brough saved the day for the home side.
From a corner in 53 minutes, Paterson headed the ball downwards but it came back off the 3G surface so fast that it bounced over the bar. There were very few shots on target at either end, and although East Kilbride pressed desperately for an equaliser – Mbu cleared a shot off the line in the closing minutes – City held out to record their 11th consecutive league win.
