WHITEHILL WELFARE’S title aspirations suffered a setback when they were beaten 1-0 by Vale of Leithen in their Central Taxis Premier Division encounter at Victoria Park last night.
Vale, who needed the points to help them move away from the relegation area, defended stoically, with goalkeeper Mark Wilson the man of the match.
Whitehill showed their intent from the outset and Aaron Somerville brought out an excellent save from Wilson before Jordan Hall seemed certain to net but again Wilson reacted to turn his shot against the post. The custodian then produced three saves in one incident to further deny Whitehill.
However, the visitors were made to pay for their missed chances after 32 minutes when the impressive Danny Noon and Kerr Dodds combined for the latter to find space and place a shot wide of Ryan McGurk in the Whitehill goal.
In the First Division, Craigroyston moved into second with a 2-1 win against Ormiston.
