The Pennypit was the scene of a nine-goal thriller last night as Whitehill Welfare defeated hosts Preston Athletic 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup.
The Rosewell club will now face East of Scotland Premier Division side Leith Athletic later this month for a place in this season’s cup final.
Striker Aaron Somerville notched his second hat-trick of the season against Preston, twice converting from the penalty spot after notching the opening goal of the game. Somerville’s strike partner Wayne McIntosh was also on target as was defender Willie Kidd and substitute Danny Noon.
Efforts from the home side’s Michael Osborne, Sean Martin and Ricky Ramsay ultimately proved in vain.
