The home side opened strongly against a University side missing several experienced players. A well-struck corner from Ross McKinnon was eased home by Liam Gormley at the far post to open East Kilbride’s account after six minutes. A second goal came on 28 minutes with Sean Winter scoring from 15 yards. Edinburgh came under further pressure when centre-back Tim Rawlinson was badly injured and before he was replaced Winter added a third goal on 31 minutes. A fine 30-yard strike from McKinnon brought a fourth goal on 38 minutes. Edinburgh rarely troubled a well-organized home defence, though Jordan Vila had a header from a Patterson corner cleared off the line. On 40 minutes Gormley added a fifth goal when keeper Davison could only parry a fierce strike by Smith. Although East Kilbride continued to hold the upper hand the University competed well throughout the second half. However, when Patterson fouled Coll in the penalty area on 76 minutes Winter stroked home his side’s sixth goal and completed his hat-trick.

BSC’s Dickie had the first strike at goal shooting just past the post before City’s Ross Allum headed over Moore only for the ball to land on the roof of the net. City put pressure on the BSC defence for the first half hour of the match but just couldn’t make the breakthrough. A rare BSC counter-attack forced Stobie into coming off his line and tackling Cunningham to clear the ball while City almost took the lead when McConnell’s flick rolled across the goal line before being cleared. Before the interval Moore showed good skills to grasp Allum’s volley in the air and then block a McConnell header. After the break Allum evaded two tackles in the box and was only denied a goal by the ball deflecting off a defender. Corrieri then passed up two good chances for the visitors before City opened the scoring when, following a corner, the ball fell to Aaron Dunsmore at the far post and he fired home. Having defended well throughout the game it was unfortunate for the visitors in the 80th minute that Bronsky failed to keep possession of the ball and Allum took full advantage to score.

A Dean Horribine hat-trick was the difference as Spartans extended their unbeaten run to six games. Horribine got the only goal of the opening half after 15 minutes, his effort hitting both posts before crossing the line. Jack Hay levelled proceedings just after the break, however Horribine restored the visitors lead shortly after. Spartans sub trialist headed home 36 seconds after coming on before David Greenhill’s well placed shot made it 4-1. Horribine completed his hat-trick before being replaced by Jack Beesley who was to score the Ainslie Park outfit’s final goal – only after Jamie Gibson had netted a consolation effort from the spot for the Borders side.

Both sides created numerous chances in the first period, the best falling to Preston’s David Scott and Gretna’s Iain Anderson. The turning point of the game came a minute into the second period when Preston’s Nick Perry broke clear in the box and was pulled back by Connor Casey. However, a yellow card was awarded and Gretna took full advantage when Daniel Wadge drove home after a couple of blocks. The away side doubled the advantage a few minutes later when Anderson netted.
