Lowland League: Whitehill hope to make it two in a row

Whitehill Welfare finally managed to play their first competitive game since December last weekend, recording a 2-1 extra-time victory over Duns in the South Challenge Cup. They hope to play their second tonight away to BSC Glasgow.

Lochburn Park was deemed unplayable for a Ferrari Packaging a Lowland League fixture with Spartans on Saturday, and Welfare will be desperate for an improvement in conditions to allow tonight’s game to go ahead.

If it does, new striker Greg Kerr hopes to continue how he started his Whitehill career, netting the winner against Duns. “It’ll be a tough game,” said the on-loan St Johnstone teenager. “I’ve seen where they are in the league but, if we play at our best, we can win the game. Hopefully, I can get another goal as well.”

Grant Carnie’s team find themselves in mid-table despite having played the fewest league games of all 14 Lowland League clubs. A win would move them up to sixth, with a regular run of Wednesday-Saturday fixtures to come from now until the end of the season.
