Manager Kirk buoyed by Hibs Ladies’ efforts after losing key players

HIBERNIAN Ladies Manager Willie Kirk insists his side have “surpassed expectations” during the first half of the campaign, writes RICHARD PAYNE.

Despite losing a host of big names players during the close season, Hibs currently lie 
second in the Scottish Women’s Premier League table and on Sunday they came from behind to defeat Forfar Farmington 4-1 at Station Park thanks to doubles from Claire Emslie and Kirsty Smith.

Elsewhere, Hutchison Vale boss Ian McDonald believes the mid-season break will allow his team to regain their confidence after slipping to their eighth league defeat of the campaign.

Speaking after his side’s 7-3 home defeat against Hamilton Academical, McDonald said: “We hope to add some competition for places during the break by strengthening a few key areas and hopefully we can regroup, refocus and get our confidence back.”

Spartans thrashed Buchan 6-1 at Ainslie Park thanks to goals from Lana Clelland (2), Claire Crosbie, Diana Barry, Sarah Ewens and Katie Reilly.
