Meadowbank quickly got into their stride and it wasn’t long before they were 2-0 up. David Gallacher broke the deadlock when he nipped into the box to score and that was quickly followed by left back Ryan Scott smashing a left-footed free-kick into the top corner for 2-0.

Then, soon after, Martin opened his account just before half-time with a comfortable finish in the area to put Meadowbank in a healthy position going into the second half.

After the break Leith came out showing fight but there was little they could do to prevent Meadowbank from grabbing more goals. Jordan Davidson found the net and Mark Griffiths further extended the lead with a powerful strike in the box. Meadowbank didn’t let up and Martin showed more clinical finishing late on for his second and third of the day, with Griffiths and Brian Thomson providing the assists for goals six and seven.

The win puts Meadowbank a point behind LEAFA Sunday league leaders Victoria Park Rangers with three games in hand over the table toppers.

Athletic weren’t coping as well as Uni with the strong winds and a third goal soon transpired – and it turned out to be crucial. Phil McNicholas turned in a cross.

Athletic played with more purpose after the interval. After knocking at the door for sustained periods they pulled one back with 20 minutes remaining when Craig Robertson picked out the bottom corner with a strong finish in the box.

Robertson’s side continued to rally and eventually grabbed another in the final five minutes to set up a tense finish when Mark Abrahams stuck away a penalty.

Uni held on at the death to book a spot in the next round.

Despite treacherous conditions the Premier Division clash went ahead and after a fairly even start to the game Thistle took the lead. Billy Bauros ventured down the right before he teed up Sean Smith to turn and finish in the box.

The goal settled the visitors and they pushed on to find a second just before the break. Dylan Robb linked up with Smith on the left and he cut inside to score from a tight angle.

Thistle continued to bang on the door and should have had another before the break but the woodwork denied them.

After making a few changes early in the second half Thistle made their mark again. Striker Graham Orr came off the bench and turned in a loose ball in the box for 3-0. With that, Thistle saw the game out to seal another precious victory; the win taking them to just four points behind Edinburgh Rose with a game in hand over their league rivals with half the season gone.
