Musselburgh boss McGlynn delighted to sign versatile midfielder Burke

MUSSELBURGH ATHLETIC have signed Ricky Burke, the former Heriot-Watt midfielder who has had trials with Airdrie, Livingston and Raith Rovers.

“Ricky is a 20-year-old who can play either in the middle of the park or wide right,” said Musselburgh manager David McGlynn.

“He’s neat and tidy on the ball. He’s not the usual type of Junior player, but hopefully he’ll get the bit more aggression he needs in time.”

Burke goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Bathgate – a repeat of last weekend’s East of Scotland Cup clash.

Musselburgh won that one on penalties after a 1-1 draw, with Ally Adams emerging as the hero as he saved three spot-kicks. “Ally got his chance after Kieron Renton went in for an operation and, in addition to the penalties, he made two great saves in the 90 minutes and also commanded his box well,” said McGlynn.

“So he’s in possession of the goalkeeper’s jersey at the moment – it’s down to him to try and hold on to it.”

With Bo’ness in cup action, Musselburgh can go top of the Super League with a win.

“We expect another close game but if we can play as we did in the second half last week then I think we can get it,” McGlynn said.
