Pittman has one eye on Ballingry for title as Broxburn’s cup clash becomes home tie

BROXBURN are in Cup action against Thornton tomorrow but a league game at Ballingry could land Steve Pittman’s side a bigger prize.

Promotion to the Super League is already in the bag and all that remains to be determined is whether or not Athletic go up as champions. Only Sauchie can deny them but to do so they’ll have to beat both Ballingry and Arniston Rangers away over the next two weekends.

“I think Arniston, who are already relegated, will be looking to re-group for next season so we probably can’t expect too much from that one,” said Broxburn assistant boss Stevie McIlhone.

“Ballingry, on the other hand, is not the place I’d like to be going to needing a win. You’ve got Dave Baikie as the manager there now and it’s always a difficult place to get a result.”

Broxburn are in Fife & Lothians Cup action at home after their tie against Thornton was switched to New Albyn Park. “To have a cup quarter-final to look forward to is a major bonus and, after securing promotion, we will be going into it with some confidence,” added McIlhone.

Bonnyrigg, hammered 7-0 by Linlithgow in the Fife & Lothians Cup on Wednesday, are at St Andrews tomorrow in the last eight of the East of Scotland Cup.

“It was a bridge too far and the wheels came off,” said Rose boss Max Christie of his side’s midweek defeat.

“We’ve now played seven games in 17 days and the players are running on empty, both physically and mentally.” Defender David Dunn was taken to hospital on Wednesday night after being knocked out when he was hit in the face by the ball.

“DD also injured his knee as he fell and he could miss the rest of the season,” added Christie. “We’ve got 11 players injured now and are struggling to get a team for Saturday. But we’ll cobble one together”
