Livingston manager Mark Burchill slammed his side’s performance after the 1-0 defeat at home to bottom club Alloa.

Robbie Crawford’s second-half strike was enough to give the Clackmannanshire outfit, who last week parted company with manager Danny Lennon, a much-needed victory that has now seen the Wasps close the gap on ninth-placed Livi to just three points.

A slack pass-back from defender Ben Gordon sent midfielder Crawford through on goal and the on-loan Rangers man finished with aplomb after 64 minutes.

“It wasn’t good enough from the first minute,” an angry Burchill said. “I really can’t defend the players as they’ve got to do more. I say to the players all the time don’t get a red card and don’t give away cheap goals and you’ll probably win the game. We’ve given away an unbelievable goal and it’s something we need to eradicate as quickly as we can.

“I don’t see their centre backs rolling the strikers in on goal to go one on one with the goalkeeper. I can’t be too harsh on Ben because he’s dug us out of a hole loads of times this season and he’s been absolutely fantastic, but we needed a bigger performance today.”

Liam Buchanan sent a shot over the crossbar inside five minutes before Iain Flannigan’s free-kick from 20 yards carried plenty of power but was straight at Marc McCallum in the Livi goal.

A mix up in the visitors’ defence then allowed striker Jordan White in, but he blasted high into the stand behind the goal.

Gary Glen miscued an effort wide minutes prior to the interval before Jackson Longridge’s intervention prevented the Wasps taking the lead through a Connor McManus volley.

But, it was former Alloa man Gordon who gifted his old side the winner with a defensive lapse that enabled Crawford to roam in on goal and slide the ball past McCallum.

Substitute Myles Hippolyte was inches from an equaliser when his free kick from the edge of the area whistled just past former Hibs goalkeeper Andy McNeil’s right-hand post.
