Give me your derby display demands fired-up McCoist

Rangers manager Ally McCoist has urged his players to replicate their performance against Celtic when Kilmarnock visit in the SPL tonight.

McCoist believes the Scottish champions have impressed more while on the road so far this term but hailed the second-half display in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox as their best effort yet.

The Rangers boss now wants to see more of the same against Killie, before facing another two back-to-back home games against Hibs and St Mirren.

He said: “Our away form has been really, really good.

“Our home form hasn’t been bad either and results have been okay but I think performances have probably been better away from home. But I would have to say the second half against Celtic is arguably the best we have played in a long time.

“If I had a wish, it would be to replicate that 45 minutes in our next three home games.”

Rangers have the opportunity to open up a ten-point lead at the summit of the SPL with wins over Killie and Hibs before nearest rivals Celtic are next in league action. McCoist added: “It is very early in the season but, at the same time, it’s a real boost. Psychologically it would be good for us.”

Rangers are boosted by the return of skipper David Weir, who has recovered from a hamstring injury that has sidelined him since the end of July. But McCoist said: “I would have to say that nobody is (a first-team pick). Davie is the same as everybody else, you have to fight for your place.”
