Referee Willie Collum axed from Premiership games

Willie Collum has been dropped from refereeing Ladbrokes Premiership fixtures following a series of high-profile blunders.

The official was not given a top-flight appointment last weekend, instead taking charge of the Championship game between Raith Rovers and Livingston.

This weekend he will referee Falkirk’s home match with Queen of the South while next midweek – despite a full Premiership card – he will be the man in the middle for Dumbarton versus Alloa Athletic.

Collum, who will represent Scotland at Euro 2016, was heavily criticised for his recent handling of Inverness’ 3-1 win over Aberdeen during which he awarded a hotly-disputed penalty to the home side. He further angered the Dons when he initially disallowed Carl Tremarco’s clincher for the hosts, before reversing his decision after consulting linesman Graham McNeillie.

Last August, Collum sent off Hearts defender Callum Paterson when the Jambos – boasting a 100 per cent record – led 2-1 at Hamilton. Accies went on to win the game 3-2, with Paterson’s red card later rescinded.
