Ronald hoping Plenderleith’s pace can give Bo’ness a boost in title bid

GRANT PLENDERLEITH is officially the fastest player in Scottish football after winning the Ramsdens Dash for Cash final over 60m at Livingston.

Now Bo’ness boss Paul Ronald is hoping the on-loan Stenhousemuir player will leave a trail of defenders trailing in his wake as he shows them a clean pair of heels in the final few weeks of the Super League title race.

“Grant is lighting-fast and I didn’t think there was anyone who’d be quicker than him in the SFL dash,” said Ronald. “Put it this way, if there was anyone quicker, I’d like to see him!”

Plenderleith is back at Bo’ness for a second loan spell and is hoping to help the West Lothian club secure a third successive title.

“In fairness to Grant, there’s more to his game than just pace,” added Ronald. “But he’s young and just needs to become a bit more clinical. Once that happens, I think he’ll go on to be an awesome player.”

Another player back for a second stint at Newtown Park is Darren Gribben, who was snapped up last Friday from Berwick Rangers and came on as a substitute in a 2-0 home win over Camelon.

“In addition to being here before, I knew about Darren from the Seniors,” said Ronald. “He’s a goal-scorer and is a good addition to our squad.

“He got on for 20 minutes last weekend and did fine.” Bo’ness are at home again tomorrow, against Carnoustie, as they start playing catch up in their bid to reel in leaders Linlithgow.

“It was important that we bounced back straight away from our Junior Cup disappointment [against Auchinleck] and now we need to pick up another three points on Saturday,” stressed the manager.
