Roseburgh blow for Bonnyrigg as Christie sets sights on cup glory

The winger, who moved to New Dundas Park earlier in the season after a brief spell at Linlithgow, has suffered a ligament strain.

“It’s a bad one and he could be out for four to five weeks,” said Rose boss Max Christie.

The loss of Roseburgh is a real blow to Bonnyrigg, who face Kelty away tomorrow in the East of Scotland Cup. While it’s a game they’ll be trying to one, Christie admitted his side have bigger targets in their sights.

“We’re still in contention in the Super League, but I’d have to say our top target is the Scottish Cup,” he said. “It’s the biggest prize in Junior football and to get our hands on that would be amazing.”

Anything is possible given the way Rose have dug themselves out of deep holes throughout the current campaign. A fortnight ago they were 2-1 down to Ashfield with a minute to go in their Scottish Cup tie but won 3-2. Then, last weekend, they came from 3-0 down at the break to earn a draw with Camelon in the league.

“The spirit here is fantastic,” said Christie. “Even though we were 3-0 down last Saturday, I thought we’d been the better team in the first-half and felt confident we could still get something out of the game.”

Sean Woodburn made his Rose debut in that encounter, having been signed in the lead up to it from Newtongrange.

“I’m delighted to get Sean in as it allows us to get Ross Archibald a bit further up the park again,” said Christie.

New Super League leaders Linlithgow will be aiming to increase their advantage on the chasing pack tomorrow at home to Lochee.
