Scots given French kiss-off

Despite a brave performance from Scotland’s women in Le Havre on Saturday, they were unable to prevent a fifth straight Group 4 win for leaders France.

Goalkeeper Gemma Fay produced a string of impressive saves, however even she was powerless to prevent the French juggernaut from claiming a 2-0 success in the 2013 European Championships qualifier. The breakthrough came in 64 minutes when defender Ifeoma Dieke turned Gaëtane Thiney’s shot into her own net and soon after Wendie Renard headed a second goal to seal the Scots fate.

Scotland are in action this Thursday when they take on Republic of Ireland at Tynecastle. Kick-off is 7pm, with admission £5 for adults and £2 for concessions.
