Second-half goal blitz sees clinical Spartans book quarter-final berth

Spartans booked their place in the quarter-finals of the East Seniors East of Scotland League Cup with a 3-0 victory against Ormiston at Ainslie Park.

After a goalless first half in which Ormiston’s
trialist goalkeeper Michael Cook
impressed, Spartans took the lead through Keith McLeod on the hour mark. Jack Beesley then netted a penalty and Mark Whatley sealed Spartans’ win with a shot which went in off the post in stoppage time.

Spartans boss Douglas
Samuel said: “It was a good professional performance with lots of attempts on goal from distance in the first half, where we did not get in behind Ormiston enough.

“We did that in the
second half although fair play to Ormiston who worked very hard and were really well
organised. They were never out of the game, that is for sure.”

Ormiston manager Murray Cheyne said: “We defended quite well. Spartans moved the ball about very quickly and kept the pace of the game up although I thought that we competed not too badly. I was impressed with Spartans.”
