Selection gamble pays off for Kirk as Hibees win 4-1

Hibernian LADIES manager Willie Kirk admitted he took a gamble with his team selection as the Easter Road side rounded off a testing week with three points away to Hamilton Academical.

Just days after facing
Glasgow City and Rangers, the Hibs players had to dig deep to muster whatever energy was left to take on the Accies in their third match in just six days.

However, the risk paid off as the Hibees ran out 4-1 winner thanks to goals from Claire Emslie (2), Caroline Weir and Susan Fairlie.

Kirk said: “We had to start well because if we hadn’t then the tiredness may have kicked in. Thankfully, we were very dominant in a first half that saw us score four goals.”

Elsewhere, Spartans defeated Celtic 1-0 at Ainslie Park to maintain their winning momentum ahead of Wednesday evening’s SWPL Cup final with Glasgow City. The only goal of the game came in the first half through Sarah Ewens.

Spartans manager Debbi
McCulloch said: “We were under a fair bit of pressure in stages and Celtic passed the ball really well. It was vital the girls were patient in their build-up and pressed together when we could. We took the chance when it came along and could possibly have had another.

“In the second half Celtic had most of the ball, but sometimes you don’t have to play pretty football to get the three points. I’m very happy with the result.”

Meanwhile, Hutchison Vale’s top-six ambitions appear to be over after they were defeated 8-1 by champions Glasgow City.
