Selkirk see off high flyers

Selkirk 3Whitehill Welfare 2

Relegated Selkirk upset third place Whitehill in an entertaining game at Yarrow Park. A patched up Welfare side which included coach Andy Gray who dusted off his boots, took the lead through Scott McCulloch after only five minutes.

Selkirk almost equalised when Ryan McManus struck the post with goalkeeper Paul Tansey beaten. McCulloch should have extended Whitehill’s lead before limping off to be replaced by goalkeeper Darren Walker who was deployed as an emergency striker. On 42 minutes a lovely free kick from Burdett pulled Selkirk level before Holness put the home side ahead with a volleyed finish on the stroke of half time.

Aaron Somerville levelled things up again with a close range finish on 55 minutes. With ten minutes left Jim Young handled a Jonathon Watt shot in the box and Watt made it 3-2 from the spot to finish off a disappointing season for Selkirk on a positive note.
