Selkirk suffer relegation

Selkirk 1Edinburgh City 2

SELKIRK’S flight of fancy in the Premier Division finally ended on Saturday – five years after it all began.

There was a real appetite in the home ranks during an encouraging first half with players charging forward at every opportunity. Jamie Gibson’s effort on ten minutes was blocked by keeper Andrew Stobie and Michael Holness fired the rebound a foot wide.

City’s Kenny Ross cleared a Euan Pritchard effort off the line and Selkirk’s Daryl Burdett clipped the cross bar with a curling free kick.

Selkirk continued to search for that elusive opener after the break with Pritchard heading a Johnny Watt flick-on inches over. But Andy Howat converted a counter attack to put City in front on 68 minutes and, two minutes, later Paul Devlin scored from 15 yards out.

Watt pulled a goal back for the home team on 76 minutes but there was no way back for relegated Souters.
