Lothian Colts under 14s are into the last 16 of SPORTSassist South East Region Cup after they cruised to a 5-1 victory over Musselburgh Windsor.

Division 1 Lothian proved to be too strong for their second division visitors and had raced into a four goal lead by half-time.

Lewis Scott fired in the opener for the hosts after he took control of a through ball and outfoxed Windsor’s goalkeeper.

Lothian were soon celebrating goal number two when Robert McCallum headed in from a corner-kick, before Scott lapped up a rebound after Calum Dobson’s shot had been saved.

Charlie Robinson produced a fine individual goal when he marauded his way through the Windsor defence and slotted the ball into the net.

Lothian weren’t able to replicate their first half showing in the second period with Windsor more resolute in defence. They did, however, find the net for a fifth time - and in some style too, as Robinson sent a side-foot volley over the head of Windsor’s keeper and into the back of the net from just over the half-way line.

The visitors did pull a goal back, but by then Lothian were already looking ahead to their last 16 clash at home to Tynecastle, which takes place this weekend.

North Merchiston 14s KO rivals

North Merchiston 14s are also through to the last 16 of the South Region Cup after they got the better of Division 3 rivals Leith Athletic Colts, winning 4-2 away from home.

Struan Woodford had Merchie ahead at the interval after some excellent pressing from Charlie Richmond saw him steal possession and feed his team-mate for the opener.

Leith would level through Lachlan Rogers when he shot high into the net from just inside the box ten minutes into the second half.

Merchie would stretch clear thereafter, however, with Richmond scoring two while Woodford also completed his brace.

Leith pulled a further goal back through Scott Halzett, but by then it was too late.

Spartans 16s see off Edinburgh Utd

Spartans 16s are into the semi-finals of the South Region Cup after they brought Edinburgh United’s unbeaten run to an end with a 3-0 defeat.

Elliot Miller scored Spartans’ first when he found the net with a composed finish after Ben Lamont had played him in.

The duo would combine once more for goal number two, with Miller showing strength to hold off his marker and shoot home once again.

Lamont then got on the scoresheet himself when he produced an excellent chip over United’s goalkeeper.
