Stew-Mel land the glory

Stewart’s MELVILLE College won the Scottish Independent Schools’ FA Cup for the first time after a 3-1 win over George Watson’s College team at Tynecastle Stadium in the final. SMC surged into a 3-0 half-time lead, but had to survive a second-half onslaught from Watson’s.

SMC took the lead after an even first 20 minutes when Nick Campbell headed his 19th goal of the season. Five minutes later Craig Gunderson doubled the lead when he reacted first to a loose ball in the box. SMC captain Jordan Smith netted a third just before half-time. But for the heroics of Stewart’s Melville man-of-the-match Stuart McLaren, Watson’s would surely have had more to show for their efforts than Kevin Keane’s consolation.
