The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland striker, who previously played at Hibs between 2009 and 2010, was wanted by Inverness, Dundee United and a clutch of clubs in England, but he has decided to spend the rest of the season at Easter Road.

Stokes, however, won’t be able to play for Hibs this afternoon in their crunch Ladbrokes Championship clash at Falkirk because paperwork has still to be completed and won’t be done ahead of the game.

Hibs have also held tentative discussions with Kevin Thomson over a player/coach role. Thomson, 31, was released by Dundee earlier this week and the midfielder could sign up for a third spell with Alan Stubbs’ men if the two parties can strike a deal.
