Taking one for team suits McNulty fine

LIVINGSTON striker Marc McNulty hasn’t been among the goals as much lately – but the youngster says he’s been more than happy to take on a different role in recent weeks in an injury-hit Lions side.

John Hughes’ men have several first-team stars injured, and with the manager having to shuffle his pack, he has asked McNulty to take up a deeper role in the Livi forward line.

That has meant fewer chances to find the net, but it is a change the former Under-19s star has been content to make.

As the side prepares to take on Queen of the South in Dumfries tomorrow, McNulty says his only concern is playing his part for Livingston. He explained: “We’ve not got the biggest of squads and with a couple of injuries and some boys needing to come off, the gaffer’s needed to shuffle it about. You’ve just got to play your part for the team.

“Most of my game is all about trying to score goals and be as high up the park as I can rather than tracking back to defend, but with injuries in the last few weeks I’ve just had to cater for other people.

“I’m happy to do it for the team, in fact I’m just happy to be playing every week so wherever the gaffer asks me to play I’ll do it.”

Last week saw the Lions lose out 1-0 at home to Ayr, but McNulty insists the players are determined to keep their good recent away form going in Dumfires tomorrow.

He said: “You get games like last week. I thought we deserved something out and played good football, but the ball just wasn’t going in the net for us. You’ve just got to accept that sometimes.

“Last time we had a good result down at Queens and they’ll be fighting for their lives, so they’ll be up for the game.

“The boys here are still looking to finish as high up the table as we can. We’ll be going out wanting to win the game as much as they do, and hopefully we’ll get a result.”
