Talbot keen for revenge over Morton

LIVINGSTON’S home record can help propel the side towards the top end of the table, according to left back Jason Talbot.

The Englishman reckons the Braidwood Motor Company Stadium being treated as something of a fortress can only help the Lions, and is looking forward to taking on Greenock Morton tomorrow.

The reverse of this fixture is the only one Livi have lost in the league yet this campaign, despite dominating large spells of the game at Cappielow, and Talbot says the players are keen to try and exploit what they learned on that occasion to pick up the three points.

He said: “It’s going to be a tough game like any game this season. But, when we played down there, in the second half especially, we dominated. It’s probably as well as we’ve played this season so far.

“I think if we can capitalise on their weaknesses then we have a good chance of winning, especially with playing at home as well.

Talbot is keen to use the Lions’ tremendous home record – where they have avoided defeat in nearly 30 league games – to breed confidence amongst the side when they take to the pitch at home.

He added: “In the league especially, it’s good for the boys’ confidence. Teams will be coming thinking it’s a tough place to get a point, and that can work for us. We could even be more aware of it ourselves.

“I like to think of it as a good omen for us. I said at the beginning of the season if you win most of your games at home and try and pick up the odd point away then you can be at the top end of the table.”

He knows this is easier said than done, however, with Livi’s last two league outings and last three in all competitions resulting in good performances not finished off with goals to show for it, with last week’s 0-0 draw away to Ayr United a prime example.

He said: “We’re playing good stuff but we just can’t seem to buy a goal at the minute. We did play well at Ayr, we had a lot of possession and dominated the game, but there’s not a lot you can do sometimes.

“Teams are better organised, have better quality players, and any lapses in concentration from anyone in the team usually means we get punished.

“It’s something we need to work on as a unit and get stronger mentally and grind out the results.”
