Thistle earn valuable point

Lothian THISTLE upset Stirling University’s East of Scotland League Central Taxis Premier Division title challenge when they travelled to Stirling and held the students to a 2-2 draw.

Thistle have moved three points clear of second-bottom Leith Athletic in their fight to avoid relegation. Stirling, meanwhile, have moved up into second place, 14 points behind Spartans but with four games in hand and the pair have still to meet in Stirling.

The students took the lead in the opening minute after the break when a Chris McKee cross was flashed home by Chris Geddes. Ten minutes later, Lothian equalised through Alan McDonagh.

There were only five minutes left when Lothian’s Joe Murray side-footed home from close range but, just two minutes later, Danny Denholm equalised after a solo run.

Lothian boss Raymond Carr said: “I thought we were very unlucky not to win.”
