Uche Ikpeazu tells Hearts fans: '˜My best is yet to come'

The former Cambridge frontman climbed off the bench to score against the Blue Brazil as Craig Levein’s men cantered to a 5-0 Betfred Cup win.

But the 23-year-old admits he has only given the Tynecastle faithful a small glimpse of his capabilities in his two substitute outings so far - and is determined to show what he really has to offer in the coming weeks.

“You know you’ve got players here who can create and who can score goals, so when you know there are going to be chances created for you it’s a good thing for a striker,” he told HeartsTV.

“It gives you that urge to get into the box because you know you’re going to get good deliveries, there are going to be crosses into the box like there were yesterday.

“It’s very encouraging. I want to score a lot of goals and I want to do well for Hearts.

“I’m buzzing but there is loads more to come. I need to work harder and I want to score more goals.

“At the end of the day it’s down to me as a player. I’ve got to be willing to take good advice on board and be patient.”

Ikpeazu was thrown on nine minutes into the second half with Hearts struggling to shake off Gary Bollan’s men.

But his introduction provided the Gorgie side the spark they needed and Ikpeazu was rewarded not only with his maiden strike but also the man-of-the-match award on his home debut.

“It was a great debut in front of the home fans, scoring and getting the man of the match,” he added. “It was just like I dreamt it. Most importantly, though, we got the win.

“I was surprised (to be given the man-of-the-match award), to be fair. I think the team did well. It could’ve been given to anyone.

“Everyone was good in the second half but it’s good. It’s an added bonus.

“But like I said, I want to help the team and score goals. Whatever happens, happens and all those are bonuses.

“It’s good to feel appreciated. Let’s hope that continues.

“The support really pushed the team on in the second half because we needed those extra goals to sit them back and let them know that we were in control. It was a really good support yesterday.”
