Welfare survive fightback

Whitehill Welfare 6Vale of Leithen 3

A BLISTERING start by Whitehill saw them go ahead after three minutes as Aaron Somerville poked the ball home from a Wayne McIntosh cross. They had a chance to double their lead soon after as Jamie Paterson fouled McIntosh in the area, but Mike Herd saw his penalty saved by Chris Hill.

Herd made amends as he did find the net in the eighth minute and in the 19th minute it was three as McIntosh shot home. Vale looked completely out of the reckoning, but amazingly levelled the game courtesy of two penalties in the 32nd and 39th minutes, both converted by Jordan Hall, before Wayne Sproule equalised in the fourth minute of the second half. But five minutes later, Andrew Kidd put the home side back in the lead and a second strike from McIntosh in the 67th minute made it 5-3. And on 77 minutes Scott Gormley latched on to a rebound to blast the ball high into the net.
