Whitehill defeated by Threave in Lowland League

Whitehill Welfare failed to record back-to-back Ferrari Packaging Lowland League wins after they went down 3-1 to Threave Rovers in Castle Douglas last night.

The league’s bottom club made it a double over their Midlothian opponents, winning only their second game of the season – their first since a 2-1 victory at Ferguson Park on the opening day, doubling their points tally in the process.

The home side got themselves in front after just quarter of an hour. Welfare keeper Bryan Young pulled down Ben Irving inside the area, and striker Ian Miller compounded Young’s misery by sending him the wrong way from 12 yards.

Grant Carnie’s men took only six minutes to restore parity. A misunderstanding between Threave keeper Martin McCauley and his defence allowed Jack Jardine to nip in and win possession before round McCauley and slotting home.

Rovers re-took the lead just a minute after the hour, Miller notching his second of the game, slotting past young after the hosts broke with numbers.

It was game over with just 11 minutes remaining. A short back pass was intercepted by Shaun Milligan, who rounded Young and finished to seal the points.
