Windsor soon got off to a flyer. With their first shot on target they took the lead as Jay Murray took aim from just outside the box to pick out the bottom-right corner.

They continued to knock on Athletic’s door, determined to double their advantage. Lennon Clark nodded just wide on 20 minutes, but it wasn’t to be costly as Duncan Tarry nodded in Murray’s flick on for 2-0.

A third soon followed when Chris Innes sidestepped two Athletic defenders in the area to fire in.

Athletic looked like a different team in the second half as they moved the ball around with a lot more confidence and purpose. They couldn’t quite mount a comeback, but did at least find a deserved consolation when Josh Vernon’s 25-yard free-kick dipped over the wall and in to make it 3-1, but the points were all Windsor’s after their first-half dominance.

n Tynecastle 19s made it into the second round of the League Cup after coming through a tricky tie against AC Oxgangs 19s at Saughton Playing Fields.

In a back-and-forth first half, it was Ciaron Small who opened the scoring for Tynie as he powered the ball home from 20 yards to make it 1-0.

Oxgangs showed spirit to keep going and just before half time they made it 1-1 thanks to a Ben Pritchett penalty.

Both sides looked up for the cup tie and it was Tynie who once again found themselves in front. Matthew Quinn rose highest in the box to send a header into the back of the net.

As the game headed towards full time, Tynie tried to shut up shop, but Oxgangs’ never-say-die attitude paid off as they again equalised through Kamil Szczesnowicz’s clever finish.

Extra-time was therefore required and with the game evenly balanced it was Tynie that found what would prove to be the winning goal. Ben Gardiner’s left-foot strike flying in to put the hosts past a determined Oxgangs side.

n Beechwood FC 17s edged closer to a semi-final spot in the Michael Moran League Cup after defeating Haddington Athletic 17s 3-1 at Meggetland.

In what was a hard-fought cup tie between the two sides, it was Beechwood who gained the advantage as the first half drew to a close. Having missed a penalty earlier in the half, Jamie McIntosh made up for it by stabbing the ball in from a scramble in the Athletic penalty area.

It was by no means one-way traffic though and as Athletic looked to rally after the restart, Beechwood needed another goal to distance themselves from their opponents. Luckily for them, five minutes into the second half Joe Paterson was in the right place at the right time to head in from a corner.

Athletic pulled one back not long after to give hope for a comeback. Cameron Middlemass intercepted the ball at the heart of the Beechwood defence to charge through and score one on one.

But it was to be Beechwood’s day as they killed the game off with ten minutes to go when Jamie McDermaid converted from close range.
