Youths: Forbes is the real deal for City Under-15s

United got off to the best start possible in the cup tie when Cameron Broomfield got in front of his marker to turn the ball home with 15 minutes gone.

City battled hard in response and were rewarded for their hard work just before half time when Ben Hunter tucked a ball in from the right hand side to make it 1-1.

Things then got even better for City after the break when David Forbes broke into the box from the right and smashed the ball in at the near post to make it 2-1.

But United, who had looked bright at the start of the second half, quickly pulled City back down to earth. Angus Paul laid off Ricky Stewart and he rifled in a second from the edge of the box.

It didn’t deter the visitors though and City again upped their game to find what would prove to be the winning goal when Forbes struck.

• Tynie come to the four

Tynecastle 15s made light work of their Federation Of Hearts Supporters Cup third round tie with a comfortable 4-0 win over Edinburgh City Whites 15s at Saughton 3G.

Tynie began strongly in the cup tie but despite having a lot of possession early on they couldn’t find a breakthrough. However, just as the half began to draw to a close they opened the scoring with a bit of luck. Matthew Dillon’s cross-cum-shot from the right flank ended up just inside the back-post for 1-0.

With the stalemate over, Tynie then upped the anti after the break and never looked back. Shortly after the restart Liam McCue made it 2-0 when he was on hand to turn the ball in during a goalmouth stramash.

The goals continued to flow and ten minutes later Calum Page played in Macauley Anderson through the middle to stroke the ball in from 12 yards.

Mark Tennant then picked up a half -leared ball from City and he drilled in a fourth to cement Tynie’s place in the next round.

• It’s gala day for Leithers

Leith Athletic 15s continued their winning ways in Division 1 with a 4-2 win over Gala Fairydean Rovers 15s at Meadowbank.

Athletic went ahead when Jack Mackay’s corner from the right directly found the back of the net. Gala, however, scored after the restart when Sam Kelly rounded off a team move, but Athletic equalised instantly through Blair Short’s 25 hard free-kick.

Once again Gala fought back when Finnan Gordon-Woolley sent a free-kick in from distance, but in the closing stages Athletic took control and they picked out the net twice more to secure all three points through Jack Duncan’s double, one of which was a penalty.
