Youths round-up: High five for Spartans FC Colts 15s

In a highly-competitive league, Spartans sit in sixth spot with Porty two places behind.

The victors had Alex McLaughlan to thank for a brace while Alex Shirlaw, Innes Skinner and Jude Mathieson also grabbed goals towards the cause.

Portobello won’t be too disheartened as their previous league form has put them in a promising position just nine points behind leaders Dunbar United with four games in hand.

• Honours even in League Cup

Hutchison Vale and Musselburgh Athletic drew 1-1 in the Division 1 League Cup.

Luke McLean continued his great goalscoring form with a strike for Hutchie but Liam Demarco ensured Mussy left with a well-earned draw. These were the first points dropped for Hutchie in the League Cup this season as they look to go all the way in the competition.

In the Under-14 Kenny McLean Cup, Leith Athletic ran out 4-0 winners away to Edinburgh City Blacks.

Their goals came from Mark Gibson, Thomas Ramage and Rhys McMurdo with two.

The win set up a fourth-round tie with Spartans FC – 5-0 winners at Musselburgh Windsor Blues – and a chance to play for a semi-final spot.

• Longniddry Villa Colts 16s to the four

Longniddry Villa Colts dispatched Salvesen CFC Reds 4-0 at home in the Under-16 Division 3.

In a match contested between two teams nearer the bottom of the table, it was a great chance to pick up some much-needed points. Rhys Heaven scored a double, while Sam Taylor and Ajay Kirkpatrick got one each. The defeat leaves Salvesen second bottom of the league but with games in hand over the teams above. Longniddry sit in ninth spot, having played less games than most teams around them.

In the Under-13s, there was a goal-fest between Dunbar United Colts and Tranent Colts FC in Division 1B. Dunbar won 8-3 in what was a fantastic performance from the home side.

Neilson Combe put in a stellar effort scoring a remarkable five goals. Jake Douther, Brodie Gray and Jack Richmond got one apiece. Logan Ritchie managed to get two for Tranent with Mackenzie Scott getting the other.

Meanwhile, a tight Under-16s Division 1 derby game between Edinburgh City Real and Edinburgh City Whites finished 3-2 to Real but the match could easily have gone either way.

Whites sit two places above their opponents in fifth place although Real have played four games less. Both teams have a lot to do if they are to climb the table, however, as Tynecastle FC and Portobello CFA remain unbeaten.

David Cameron Forbes scored a brace for Real in their win while Lewis Watson scored the third. For the Whites, Calum Arnott and Ory Heggie were on the scoresheet.
